Microneedling procedure used to target different skin conditions in a minimally-invasive procedure. Microneedling causes tiny injuries on the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin, irrigating it and triggering the healing response. The small micro-wounds close after a short time and trigger the body’s spontaneous healing process through stimulating your skin cells, which causes new collagen to form. The result is a thicker, more youthful skin.

Canada Health is the federal regulator of therapeutic products, including medical devices. Medical micro-needling equipment is required to be registered as Class 2 Medical device. Micro-needling can be performed using consumer devices but these treatments are superficial and will not go deep into your skin. In order to stimulate the collagen and elastin production, you have to go beyond the epidermis into the dermis.

Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of treatments spaced about 6-10 weeks apart. For patients with more significant skin-care concerns, such as acne scars, 5 or more sessions might initially be needed initially. Maintenance is usually 1-3 times a year.

Patients with active acne, history of keloid scarring, those on immune medications, or taking anti-coagulants should not have treatment. Facial redness/broken blood vessels are common signs of aging and sun damage – these problems are better treated with laser or intense pulse light therapies.
